In Canada, roughly 81.1%[2] of people are cremated, so most families already understand the difference between private and communal. For a rodent, that difference matters more than usual: a private cremation may return only a teaspoon of ash, while communal returns nothing at all but costs far less. Both are dignified.

A few places restrict certain rodents as pets; gerbils, for instance, aren't allowed in California or Hawaii. If a pet you weren't strictly meant to keep has died in Alberta, don't let that stop you asking a vet for help. Their concern is a safe, respectful goodbye. Step by step for a small pet in Edmonton
- Take a photo or a clipping of fur, and keep their hammock, wheel or favorite hideout if you'd like to.

Is cremation common in Canada?
For people, yes: about 81.1%[2] of Canada deaths end in cremation, according to CANA Industry Statistical Information (2030). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Edmonton follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
