The town is small, but pine woods, subdivisions carved from former timberland and homes on a few acres stretch out in every direction. What Texas's funeral habits mean for small pets
Funeral customs in Texas are still shifting, with roughly 55.7%[2] of people now cremated. For small pets that shows up at the vet's counter: some practices offer cremation by default, while others expect you to take a hamster home. Neither expectation should decide for you. Think about where you'll live in five years and whether you'd like something to hold.

Local rules for small-pet burial in Texas
One rule applies everywhere: if your rat or hamster was put to sleep, the drugs stay in the body. Since 2003[8], US labels have warned that euthanized animals must be buried deeply or cremated so wildlife can't eat them, and the same caution makes sense in Texas. The first day, one step at a time

- If cremating, ask three questions: do they charge a lower rate for small pets, does your pet go on their own tray, and about how much ash should you expect back?
- Clean the cage from top to bottom if sickness might have played a part, before any surviving or new pet moves back in.
Remembering your little one in Cleveland

Will I have to travel to Houston to arrange things?
