Seville, Andalusia
Pocket-pet aftercare in a place like Seville
Many Seville households keep their pets indoors through the heat of the day and out on terraces and patios in the evenings. Pet cremation is well established in Spain, and most vets can arrange it on your behalf. Before you agree, get three things clear: that the cremation is individual, that pickup is part of the price, and roughly when the ashes will be ready, since timing varies between providers.
Seville's historic center is a maze of narrow lanes in Santa Cruz and the Alfalfa, where many families live in old buildings arranged around interior patios, while Nervión, Los Remedios and the newer districts have apartment blocks with lifts. In the old town a vehicle may not be able to reach your door at all. When you call your vet or a provider, give precise directions and mention the nearest point where a car can stop.
Plenty of Seville households don't own a car, and that's fine here. A hamster or mouse fits in a small lined box that travels quietly on a bus or train, so you can hand them to a crematorium or an exotics vet yourself. Phone first: some providers only take drop-offs by appointment, and a few run their small-animal trays on set days rather than every day.
Seville is home to about 689,000 people, the largest of the 4 Andalusia communities we cover.
Nearby, we also have local pages for Marbella (86 miles), Malaga (98 miles) and Granada (132 miles), which can help if your vet or the provider you prefer is based there.

Burial, cremation and the Spain tradition
Roughly 50.11%[1] of people in Spain are cremated, so local families sit somewhere between the two traditions. That middle ground suits rodent keepers well. Some bury in the garden and keep a photo; others choose communal cremation through the vet; a few want a tiny vial of ashes. All three are common and none needs explaining.
For the Spain figure we rely on Infobae, citing PANASEF (Spanish funeral services association) (2024). Read it as a picture of local custom around death and remembrance in Seville rather than as pet data.
Seville weather and your small pet
We don't hold detailed weather records for Seville, so use your own thermometer. If the room where your pet lived felt cold overnight, roughly below 60°F (15°C), check a hamster for torpor before anything else. If it was hotter than about 80°F (27°C), heat may have played a part, and any other pets need moving somewhere cooler.

What rodent cremation costs around Seville
Europe keeps about 24.7 million[5] pet small mammals, a group that includes hamsters, rats and degus, so crematoria around Seville see rodents regularly even if they don't advertise for them. Ask for the lowest weight band in writing, and check whether VAT and a basic container are already in the quoted price.
Rather than repeat the price table on every city page, we keep one for Andalusia: Andalusia costs. What each service includes is on the services page.

Andalusia rules for pocket pets
If your rodent died of something contagious, the rules in Andalusia and common sense point the same way: cremation is the safer choice, and used bedding should be bagged and binned rather than composted. Your vet can tell you whether the illness was likely infectious. Burial and scattering details for Andalusia are set out below.
A calm plan for the next 48 hours
- If your pet died at the vet, the practice can organize cremation for you, or you can carry them home in a box. Both are normal, and nobody expects an answer while you're standing at reception.
- If it happened at home, keep your pet cool and away from other animals, including curious cats and dogs.
- If you're unsure it was a death, a vet with small-exotic experience can confirm it, which brings peace of mind after a sudden loss.
- Choose communal or private. For a mouse or dwarf hamster, communal is often the honest choice; for a rat, private returns a heaped tablespoon or so.
- Ask for the small-pet tray specifically when booking private, and get it in writing that no other pet shares the chamber with yours.
- Buy a keepsake sized for a pinch: a pendant or tiny vial suits the amount better than a standard urn.
Remembering your little one in Seville
Seville's summers are among the hottest in Europe, with July and August afternoons often above 40°C and nights that barely cool. If a pet dies in that heat, get the body into an air-conditioned room with frozen packs as quickly as you can and aim for collection the same day. Winters are mild and bright, so there is more breathing room between November and March, though sunny rooms still warm up.

Questions people ask
How do Spain attitudes to cremation compare?
Infobae, citing PANASEF (Spanish funeral services association) (2024) puts the Spain human cremation rate at about 50.11%[1]. We show it on the Seville page because pet aftercare choices tend to track it: where cremation is normal for people, communal and private pet cremation are both easy to find.
Which nearby towns can I compare with Seville?
The closest communities we cover are Marbella (about 86 miles), Malaga (about 98 miles) and Granada (about 132 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Seville too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Can two cage mates be cremated together?
Yes, if you'd like their ashes mixed. Tell the provider in writing that you want them cremated together and returned in one container. If you'd rather keep them apart, ask for two private cremations and separate labeled vials. Either way, ask for a per-animal price; some providers discount a second small pet on the same day.
Do I need to use the crematorium my Seville vet recommends?
No. The vet's arrangement is convenient, especially after euthanasia, but it usually adds a handling fee and limits you to one provider. With a pet small enough to carry in a shoebox, you can often drop them off directly at another crematorium that offers a small-pet rate or a separate tray.
How much does rat or hamster cremation cost in Seville?
Few providers list a rodent price, so a rat or hamster is usually charged at the smallest band for cats and small pets, or a little less. Communal cremation is much cheaper than individual, and a garden or planter burial is free. Ask any Seville provider for a written quote that says which it is and lists any container fee.
Will I get any ashes back from a mouse or dwarf hamster?
Possibly only a pinch. Cremated remains usually weigh about 3-5% of body weight[4], so a 25-gram mouse leaves well under two grams. With the tiniest pets, a careful provider uses a small tray so the fragile bone can be collected. Ask what they expect to return before paying for private cremation.
