Does the Orinda climate change what I should do first?
Only the timing. In September, with highs near 70°F, cool the body and book collection the same day. Winters here are mild enough that burial or scattering is possible in any month.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Orinda?

Is it safe to bury a rat that was put to sleep?
Only if you can bury deeply. Euthanasia drugs stay in the body and can harm wildlife or pets that dig. Since 2003[7], US labels have warned that euthanized animals must be buried deeply or cremated. Go at least three feet down with a heavy slab on top, or choose cremation instead.
What is wet tail, and could it affect my other hamsters?
Wet tail is a severe bacterial diarrhea, most common in young hamsters around the stress of a new home. In Royal Veterinary College data on pet hamsters it topped the list of named causes of death, at 7.88%[8] of deaths. It can spread through shared bedding and hands, so cremation is the safer aftercare, and the cage needs a deep clean before any new hamster moves in.
