Across Canada, the ground is frozen for months in most places, so many rodent keepers keep a small pet in the freezer until spring or choose cremation. Few crematoria list a pocket-pet price; the smallest published bands are built around cats. Ask whether a hamster or rat can be cremated privately on a separate tray, and for less than the cat rate.

If your rat, mouse or hamster has just died
- Take a photo or a clipping from their coat, and hold on to the wheel, hammock or hideout they loved if that feels right.

Is cremation common in Canada?
For people, yes: about 81.1%[1] of Canada deaths end in cremation, according to CANA Industry Statistical Information (2030). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Hamilton follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Hamilton?
